What Does the Number of Roses Mean? From 1 to 101

Roses already carry meaning through their colour. But the number of roses tells its own story too. Whether you’re planning a proposal or a birthday surprise, here’s a guide to what each number says, and how big a bouquet really looks in person.

1 rose: “You’re the one”

A single red rose is simple and sincere: love at first sight, or devotion to one person. It’s small, but it’s never forgettable.

3 roses: “I love you”

Three roses, one for each word. A sweet choice for early relationships or a romantic “just because.”

6 roses: “I want to be yours”

A message of longing and affection, often given when a relationship is becoming serious.

12 roses: “Be mine”

The classic dozen. Twelve roses mean complete love and gratitude, and they’ve been the traditional romantic gift for generations.

24 roses: “I’m yours, every hour of the day”

Twenty-four roses, one for every hour, say you’re always on their mind.

40 roses: true love

Forty roses make a bold, full bouquet that feels truly generous. Our Crimson Romance has around 40 premium red roses in elegant black wrapping with a red satin ribbon ($160).

50 roses: unconditional love

Fifty roses represent love without limits, and they’re stunning in person. Choose the 50 Red Roses Classic Luxury Bouquet ($190), or Velvet Bloom ($220), which surrounds 50 roses with a cloud of baby’s breath and lets you pick the wrapping colour.

70 roses: a love that lasts

Seventy roses feel grand and celebratory, perfect for milestone anniversaries. Crimson & Pearl Elegance ($260) mixes 70 red and white roses for a “love and forever” message.

101 roses: “You’re my one and only, forever”

This is the grand gesture. 101 roses say you are the love of my life. It’s the bouquet for proposals, big anniversaries and unforgettable apologies. Our 101 Red Roses Grand Luxury Bouquet ($390) is arranged in a full, round design, and you can choose black, white, red or pink wrapping.

Fair warning: 101 roses is big. Plan to carry it with two arms!

How to choose the right number

  • First dates or early romance: 1, 3 or a dozen
  • Birthdays and anniversaries: 24 to 50
  • Milestones and proposals: 70 to 101
  • On a budget? Colour and wrapping matter just as much as count. See our Under $100 bouquets.
